Very Reverend Father Athanasios Giatsios

Fr Athanasios Giatsios was born in Sydney on the 16th of May 1978. He completed his primary education at Mascot Public School and continued his secondary studies at J.J. Cahill Memorial High School in Mascot.

He holds a Master of Arts in Modern Greek and Ancient History from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Theology in Pastoral Ministry from St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College. He is currently undertaking further postgraduate studies at the University of Sydney, pursuing a Master of Philosophy (MPhil).

Fr Athanasios was ordained to the diaconate on the 5th of June 2005 by the late Archbishop Stylianos Harkianakis, and later ordained to the holy priesthood on the 9th of October 2005 by Bishop Seraphim of Apollonias (now Metropolitan Seraphim of Sevastia). He began his priestly ministry as Assistant Parish Priest at St Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Mascot, where he was appointed Rector in 2010.

During his time at St Catherine’s, Fr Athanasios also served as the Orthodox Chaplain at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick from 2010 to 2021, and continues to serve as the Orthodox Chaplain at the University of New South Wales. A highlight of his tenure was the Consecration of St Catherine’s Church, which took place on the 25th of November 2021.

On the 27th of November 2019, he was made a Spiritual Father by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. In June 2020, Fr Athanasios was elevated to the rank of Protopresbyter in recognition of his faithful service to the Church.

On the 1st of December 2021, he was appointed by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios to serve as the Assistant Parish Priest at the Parish and Community of the Resurrection of Christ in Kogarah.

Fr Athanasios is married and is blessed with one daughter.

Father Socrates Dokos

Father Socrates Dokos

Fr Socrates Dokos was born in Sydney Australia and ordained to the holy priesthood on the 11th August 2024 by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Since then, he has served as assistant parish priest at the Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Kogarah.

He is a graduate of St Andrew’s Theological College (Masters of Arts in Theology, 2011), and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society for many years, teaching Sunday Schools, Youth Fellowships (Ομάδες), serving as adult group-leader, as well as editor of the Orthodox Christian periodical Lychnos. He is also a part-time Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, UNSW Sydney, where he teaches in the areas of cardiovascular dynamics and computational modelling of biomedical systems.

He is married to Presvytera Anna and they have 6 children and a growing number of grandchildren.
